The building will be fully inclusive with a particular focus on youth, those with special needs and older people from the local community of Greencastle.
Speaking following his visit, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor John McClaughry said:
“I am delighted to have had the opportunity to come to Greencastle to see at first hand the work being done at the Club as a result of funding from Fermanagh and Omagh District Council. The local community has undertaken great work to develop these new inclusive facilities for everyone in the local area.
Facilities in rural communities, such as this one in Greencastle, are a vital hub providing access to a range of activities and services which may not otherwise be possible. This encourages increased participation helping to meet recreational, educational, social, cultural and health and wellbeing needs, whilst also reducing the potential for social isolation.
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is committed to building and empowering resilient, thriving and safe communities and supporting groups through funding to develop excellent facilities helps us to achieve this.”
An Caisleán Glas Chair – Martin Conway said: “On behalf of An Caisleán Glas GAA, I am delighted to welcome Councillor McClaughry to Greencastle. We are very pleased to be able to express our gratitude to Fermanagh & Omagh District Council for supporting our project. We began fundraising in October 2023 so we are extremely happy to finally see the work started. We are aware this development would not be possible without the support from Fermanagh & Omagh District Council and support from the community locally and as well as our neighbours in the surrounding areas and counties who have assisted us in recent months. We look forward to welcoming many to our finished facility”
